How safe are our banks? In my discussion with Peter Switzer last week, I explained that by global standards, they have a simple business model that has allowed them to cut costs and lower risk. RBA research shows that local banks' focus on home lending has allowed them to slash costs through IT innovation, as well as de-risk their loan books compared to business lending.
