The ABS released its less heralded Detailed Labour Force data for the month of October and it revealed a worrying disparity between capital city and regional employment growth. Headline unemployment rates remain relatively low in Perth and Sydney (where there is a large volume of dwelling and infrastructure construction in the pipeline) but across the rest of state figures unemployment rates have been rising sharply. Indeed jobs growth has lately been largely focused on only the four largest cities, while Adelaide and Canberra are shedding positions in aggregate.
