The Chinese companies winning over the global brands
Multi-national consumer brands have benefited from the rise of the Chinese middle class. That benefit has come with minimal effort as the growing number of wealthy Chinese consumers began to seek them out, explains Qiao Ma, Portfolio Manager of the Cooper Investors Asian Equities Fund. However, recently Qiao has seen a “very rapid rise” in local companies making high-end products. Unlike the foreign brands, these local companies have a deep understanding of local markets.
“The local companies are selling a high-quality product and using the local distribution advantage. They’re really giving the global brands a run for their money.”
