What should Australian portfolios look like in 2021?
The ‘average’ Australian portfolio in 2020 still looks remarkably similar to those of years, or even decades, earlier, says Anthony Murphy, Chief Executive Officer at Lucerne Investment Partners. Despite significant diversification of portfolios in recent years, many investors still hold ‘the usual suspects’: The Big Banks, Coles, Woolies, Telstra, and some bank hybrids.
“The average Australian portfolio tends to be a little bit passive, as opposed to how we think portfolios should be managed.”
Murphy advocates a more cosmopolitan approach, arguing investors should have a higher allocation of international shares than they do of Australian shares, something which is rarely seen in retail or institutional portfolios.
In the video below Murphy reveals in greater depth how investors should be allocating their capital as we move into 2021.
