While most investors were focused yesterday on the Fed meeting, the bigger bombshell in the US was dropped by Amazon.com (AMZN). Jeff Bezos and Amazon unveiled a brand new smartphone, the Fire Phone. AMZN is entering an extremely crowded market, dominated at the moment by Apple and Samsung. The Fire Phone is different in that AMZN is using it as a front-end for their massive retail store. The phone will quickly recognize over 100 million products and pull up the appropriate Amazon purchase page. It's also breaking new ground with its Dynamic Perspective, a type of 3-D viewing. At the moment, the phone is only offered through AT&T with a 2-year contract, but it will include a free year of Prime membership. This is a big move for the online retail giant - and judging by its previous moves, it's likely to succeed. (VIEW LINK)
