3 themes BlackRock is watching
With nearly $9 trillion in assets, BlackRock is at the confluence of how money moves across the global financial system as well as tectonic shifts in market trends. The asset manager’s think-tank of economists and portfolio managers recently sat down to discuss key themes to monitor on the back of COVID-19. They include:
- Activity restart – How governments are planning to re-open economies;
- Policy revolution – The blending of monetary and fiscal policy, and the impact on markets when support levels are tapered; and
- Real resilience – Building portfolios in an era of de-globalisation.
As these factors slowly play out, they are currently coalescing into ultra-low interest rates today and thus reducing the ability of government bonds to act as a portfolio ballast.
In this wire Blair Hannon, ETF Specialist at BlackRock, expands on these views and discusses other potential options for fixed income investors seeking to generate higher returns.
