Income is back! And so is Livewire’s Income Series

For a decade, income investing was an afterthought to all but a specific cohort of retirees. And as rates went to zero and growth investing took off, even the most ardent income investors would have been tempted to chase the returns growth was offering.

Things have changed dramatically since the highpoint for growth.

A new era for income. Is this as good as it gets?

By March this year, Coolabah Capital’s Christopher Joye wrote in the Australian Financial Review arguing that if you weren’t generating 9-10% in equity returns, you were better off in cash. Right now, yields on the Australian 10-year are pushing towards 4% and Term Deposits are offering around 5%. The days of TINA are behind us.

Income investing is not just back in favour, it’s staging one of the biggest investing comebacks we’ve seen in generations, but it has not been an easy ride. The volatility in 2022 was immense and there are darkening clouds on the macroeconomic horizon, as inflation remains high and talk of recession gathers pace.

In Livewire Market’s upcoming Income Series, we will be speaking with the biggest names in income investing to find out where they are finding compelling opportunities. Before we kick off, however, you’re invited to take a short survey to ensure we tackle the most critical topics.

Coming up in the Livewire Income Series

The Income Series kicks off today and will feature insights from leading wealth managers and asset allocators. We’ll also be running feature interviews with fund managers across various asset classes to learn about their strategies and the opportunities they see.

Below is a taste of some of the content we have planned.

  • A fireside chat with Aaron Minney, Head of Retirement Research at Challenger looking at the challenges and opportunities for income investors.
  • An in-depth discussion with PIMCO’s Adam Bowe, one of Australia’s leading bond experts.
  • Exclusive Rules of Investing podcast with the master of franked dividend investing, Dr Don Hamson from Plato Investment Management
  • 9 expert interviews uncovering the best income opportunities from a range of asset classes.
  • A list of the 41 most-consistent dividend paying stocks on the ASX.
  • A list of funds to generate income across asset classes and styles.

How are you investing for income in the current environment?

We’d love to hear about your views on income investing and invite you to participate in our short survey.

All participants will get access to a Special Report covering the survey findings, including which income funds other readers are using right now.
