Origin Energy 2015 AGM and the shareholder requisition on GHG emission disclosure

Kym Sheehan

The Executive Remuneration Reporter

In an earlier wire (VIEW LINK) I noted Origin Energy's 2015 AGM agenda includes a shareholder resolution to amend the constitution to introduce new climate change reporting obligations on the company. I look at the company's reconciliation of its current disclosures to the disclosures sought by the resolution in the attached document. I understand the point the requisitioners are trying to make about what's missing from the current disclosures: Origin Energy's strategies for emissions management and how the company plans to rebalance its current mix of internal generation capacity away from 50% black coal. There is some discussion of how Origin Energy’s business is aligned with change in profile of energy demand as modelled by IEA, but the proposed resolution seeks something more. FY2015's write down of a number of the same assets Origin Energy identifies as being a part of its generation portfolio’s resilience or response to climate change is noted.
