PayPay's big opportunity

PayPal settles transactions in three ways: 1. Internal settlements (existing PayPal balance) – free, fast and with low fraud; 2. ACH (bank transfer) – cheap but slow; 3. Credit Cards – Very expensive and higher fraud. In contrast to Wall Street, which tends to focus on transaction and customer growth, Elon Musk highlights the value of internal transaction settlements, which we believe are the least used of PayPal’s current transactions. PayPal’s profitability increases when customers favour internal settlements over credit cards, but PayPal’s current management is not taking advantage of its biggest strength and aggressively funneling users into ACH and internal settlements.
