Zero rates: The most interesting aspect of markets today
Paul Moore shares some observations following his recent visit to Europe. “In terms of zero rates in Europe - that, to me, is the most interesting aspect of markets today. What does it really mean when you can get 0% on a 10 year Swiss government bond? I don’t think anyone knows, we are all trying to work it out and the reality is you are going to have to re-write text books… You now have the crazy situation where there are negative yields in some of the markets… So it’s something we are all thinking about. All I can tell you is in that sort of environment the best thing to do is just focus on two things – yield and growth. If you look at the core of our portfolio, that is basically what we have been doing.” The full video covers our views on the current European economic recovery, where we see the Australian dollar moving from current levels and some observations on domestic bank valuations.
