Trending On Livewire: Weekend Edition - Saturday 14th September
Bar the politics, it was a week for data certainty, long-sought after gains for some mining stocks, and a slew of CEO departures. Data certainty was provided by the US CPI and PPI prints, which all but confirmed that the Federal Reserve will start cutting interest rates by 25 basis points at its meeting next week. Long-sought after gains were provided by the lithium miners (soaring futures prices), uranium miners (Vladimir Putin), and Mineral Resources (the FIRB approved the company’s proposed sale of its Onslow Iron haul road stake.)
And finally, it was a week for CEO departures - Nine (ASX: NEC) NIB (ASX: NIB), Prescient Therapeutics (ASX: PTX), and Equity Story all posted board updates to the ASX within 15 minutes of each other. Talk about killing season!

A stock to back for the next 10 years - according to one of Australia's best-performing funds
How do you invest like a fund manager who can consistently outperform no matter the cycle? We find out in this wire with the help of Ophir Asset Management's Andrew Mitchell. Mitchell helps manage the Ophir Opportunities Fund, which has generated returns of 18.14% per annum over the last decade.
It is the most consistently outperforming fund in the small-cap "blend" category over the past five years, per Morningstar's data. In this wire, we get his thoughts on the last decade in markets, the biggest debate happening in the Ophir war room right now, and the one stock he would back for the next decade.

Rules of Investing: The secret to finding stocks you can hold for 20+ years
While Warren Buffett's favourite holding time may be forever, the average holding period for a typical investor is now less than six months. In a world where news, analysis and investment ideas are readily available at our fingertips, our investment horizons have become increasingly short-term.
So, how can you identify companies you could happily hold for the next 20 years or more? To find out, Livewire sat down with Janus Henderson's Josh Cummings. We discuss what makes a winning long-term stock, why AI will become far more pervasive than we can fathom today, and some of Cummings' best ideas for long-term investors.
Buy Hold Sell: 5 stocks slashing their dividends
While the August reporting season was mixed itself, the dividend outlook isn't so rosy. Companies are hoarding their cash, with the payout ratio of the Australian market falling from 62% pre-COVID to 53% today.
So, should investors still hold companies that have announced they will be cutting their dividends or slashing them completely? To find out, Livewire's Ally Selby was joined by Martin Currie's Reece Birtles and Ausbil Investment Management's Michael Price for their analysis of three stocks that have done exactly that. Plus, we ask our guests to name a stock they are buying today despite announcing a dividend cut.

Carl’s Chart of the Week: Is the stock market about to crash? How to spot the next bear market in advance
Whether you’ve been in the markets for a long time or a short time, it’s always a good time to learn from past market mistakes.
I've analysed the charts from recent bear markets and there are several key characteristics that are consistent with major market tops. The big question I intend to answer here is: Are those key characteristics present now?
The good news for investors is that so far, the key technical factors I use to identify a bull market transitioning to a bear market are largely absent. However, there are some concerning developing signals that warrant extra attention going forward.

We asked "What is your sentiment towards Copper over the next 12 months?"
The survey reveals a cautiously optimistic outlook on copper for the next 12 months. While the majority (42%) remain neutral, indicating market uncertainty, bullish sentiment (34%) edges out bearish views (24%). This slight positive tilt suggests investors are carefully weighing complex market factors, including global economic conditions and copper's role in green technologies, resulting in a measured yet guardedly positive overall sentiment.
